Ultrasound Signal Processing and Modeling for Automated Medical Monitoring
نویسندگان
چکیده
Our research focuses on the use of ultrasound for medical monitoring applications. Two projects that we discuss below are ultrasonic bladder distention monitoring and emboli removal from cardiopulmonary bypass circuits. In the first topic, ultrasound signal processing methods are used to relate raw ultrasound signals to bladder fullness. Clinical tests have been completed to collect relevant bladder distention data. Further clinical data must be collected to develop adequate bladder fullness algorithms. The second topic involves the implementation of complicated acoustic force models in order to optimize ultrasonic emboli removal in the operating room. Our modeling results show that experimental optimization of a removal system can be based on a simple inviscid fluid model. The techniques we have developed can be applied to various other applications. Acoustic processing of algal biofuels is one example that is briefly discussed.

Objectives: Automated Auditory Brainstem Responses (ABR) peak detection is a novel technique to facilitate the measurement of neural synchrony along the auditory pathway through the brainstem. Analyzing the location of the peaks in these signals and the time interval between them may be utilized either for analyzing the hearing process or detecting peripheral and central lesions in the human he...

Ultrasound is a safe, non-invasive technique that can be used in various medical applications to improve patient quality of life. In this paper we discuss the current status of two ultrasound-based medical projects. The techniques we are developing can in the future be applied to medical monitoring in rural or space settings. Urinary incontinence affects a large percentage of the population. We...

Structural health monitoring (SHM) systems operate online and test different materials using ultrasonic guided waves and piezoelectric smart materials. These systems are permanently installed on the structures and display information on the monitor screen. The user informs the engineers of the existing damage after observing signal loss which appears after damage is caused. In this paper health...

thickness and corrosion/erosion rate. In this thesis, a combination of signal processing techniques are used to estimate the corrosion rate estimates based on MBE. Corrosion rate is estimated based on ultrasonic pipe wall thickness data is collected over a short period of time using MBE model. This technique is based on data collected from the speedometer applied for thinning and both indicate ...
متن کاملAdvances in Doppler Ultrasound Signal Processing for Fetal Monitoring
The fetal monitoring is based on a fetal heart rhythm analysis, and aimed at the detection of early symptoms of the intrauterine fetal hypoxia. The most often used method for acquisition of the fetal heart rate (FHR) during pregnancy is the Doppler ultrasound technique. When a penetrating beam is reflected from the moving parts, like valves of the fetal heart, its frequency is shifted according...
